Severance Tax Studies

In 1988, the Tribes commissioned a study by National Economic Research Associates, Inc. (NERA) which compared severance tax revenue paid to the State of Wyoming based on mineral production on the Wind River Reservation with the amount of services, grants, and contract funds returned to the Reservation by the State.  The study shows a wide disparity between revenue generated on the Reservation for Wyoming and services and funding provided to the Reservation by the State.  The study included the years 1979-1987.

In 2003, the Tribes commissioned an updated study including the years 1988-2002.  The cumulative total net revenue to Wyoming is shown on Table 1 of the report ($283,312,034.00).
