To All Northern Arapaho Tribal Members;

The Northern Arapaho Business Council, Northern Arapaho Ceremonial Tribal Elders and the Wind River Family & Community Health Care have all been working together to try and make our upcoming ceremonies safe starting with the Pipe Fast scheduled for next week. It is important to preserve these traditions and ceremonies and at the same time keep all Tribal members and the Ceremonial Tribal Elders safe. With that in mind we have agreed on a set of rules for the upcoming Pipe Fast and they are as follows:

All participants in the actual Pipe Fast are required to test for the COVID-19 virus the week of May 18th through May 22nd. This will include all participants and anyone assisting in and around the Teepee. Also, includes helpers, cooks, janitors, those tending the fire and firewood and anyone else who will be helping with activities in and around the Teepee.
All Tribal members who plan on coming to the Teepee to touch the Pipe on Saturday and Sunday must come to the clinic and be tested prior to and including May 27th. This is at the request of the Ceremonial Tribal Elders, due to a scare this week in which it was thought that one of the Elders had tested positive. You can be tested at either the Arapaho or Ethete Clinic, this will help with the expected large number of Tribal members who wish to be tested.
The Wind River Family & Community Health Care Clinic and the Northern Arapaho Tribe will have screeners at the entrance to check your temperature and ask questions about symptoms as you enter the area. This process will be during all four days, you should plan on not going in and out of the Teepee and should not hang out in and around the Teepee if you do not need to be.
All entering the area are required to wear a mask and to use hand sanitizer. If you have your own masks, please bring them with you otherwise we can provide you with a mask upon screening, you will not be allowed in the area without going through screening and wearing a mask.
If you are not planning to attend please adhere strictly to the Stay-At-Home order that the Northern Arapaho Tribe has put in place. Do not leave your house unless you absolutely have to for medical care or groceries. Practice Social Distancing by staying six(6) feet away from other people and always wear masks if you have to leave your house to conduct business. Avoid any gatherings of more than ten(10) people.
If you are found or reported of participating in gatherings of more than ten(10) people, conducting business without a mask or otherwise not protecting yourself from exposure you may not be allowed in the Pipe Fast.
If you are planning on attending Pipe Fast you should not allow family members or friends who are high risk in spreading the virus into your house or people who are known to party or do not adhere to the Social Distancing guidelines.

On Saturday and Sunday family groups will be kept at least six (6) feet apart. Families should stay in their cars until it is your turn to go to the Teepee and touch the Pipe. We will have workers there to assist.

These rules are in place for the protection of everyone involved from exposure to the Coronavirus. It is important to protect our Tribal members as well as our Ceremonial and Tribal Elders especially. It is also important to maintain the integrity of the ceremonies and I think especially in these hard times Tribal members can benefit from a spiritual uplifting to bolster their spirits in this time we have suffered much loss and illness. When you come to either clinic to get tested please let them know that you are testing so that you can attend the Pipe Fast.

Please be safe and respect the safety of others.

There has been a change in the process for participants attending the upcoming Pipe Fast May 28th through May 31st. ANY AND ALL PERSONS attending the fast or coming near the tipi in any fashion IS REQUIRED to test by Friday, May 22nd. NO EXCEPTIONS. Make sure when tested, you inform the clinic that you will be attending Pipe Fast and put on the list of attendees. This now includes people coming to touch the pipe. There again, we are taking these extreme precautionary measures for all of our safety. Hohou! ... See MoreSee Less
