Position: Certified Peer Specialist (Regular, Full time)

Hours:             32-40 Hour Work Week, Evening & Weekends Required


The Certified Peer Specialist work by sharing their own lived experience and practical guidance, to help clients develop their own goals, create strategies for self empowerment, and take concrete steps towards building fulfilling, self determined lives.

Major Duties:

Recovery Support:

  1. Assist a client to direct their own recovery and advocacy process;
  2. Utilize client self-determination and decision making;
    1. to teach and support the acquisition and exercise of recovery skills needed for management of symptoms and for navigating systems;
    2. to create self determined recovery and maintenance plans
    3. to utilize natural resources within the community
  3. Facilitate the learning of skills to advance recovery, self determination, and quality of life
  4. effectively facilitate groups to promote mutual learning, engagement and integration of community resources such as cultural activities, spirituality and other positive support groups include
    1. Mending Broken Hearts/Grief Recovery
    2. 12 Step Medicine Wheel/Wellbriety
    3. Cultural/Traditional Learning
    4. Talking Circles
    5. Population Specific Peer Groups
  5. Understand the impact of trauma and responses to trauma, demonstrate sensitivity and acceptance of individual experiences


  1. Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations including Indian Health Service standards and certifying agency standards
  2. Advise staff in the management of records and information to ensure compliance with all confidentiality laws including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2
  3. Completes paperwork requirements to maintain quality, up to date clinical records, including progress notes and other relevant information, enter the necessary information into the electronic health record (EHR) system, ACCUCARE.
  4. All clinical documentation, services and issues will be reviewed with primary provider


  1. Strive to maintain client centered practices by integrating family and positive support systems.
  2. Reinforcing clinical programming and staff adherence to ethical practices
  3. Maintaining and modeling a close collaborative working relationships with community resources to ensure quality care is being provided
  4. Model and support health and wellness activities and helth coping skills for clients
  5. Maintain professional standard of conduct, and model recovery type behavior. Adhere to NAADAC Code of Ethics, as well as policies and procedures


  1. Work to resolve conflicts at the team level and effectively use supervision and management for further conflict resolution.
  2. Attend all mandatory training and staff meetings.
  3. Provide coverage assistance to co-workers as necessary to assure clients access to services.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Required:

Knowledge of confidentiality rules and regulations including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2

Knowledge of substance abuse

Education and Experience:

Minimum of highschool diploma or equivalent

Certification as a Certified Peer Specialist is to be obtained within 6 months of employment and maintained throughout employment

2 consecutive years of recovery of being clean and sober

Along with any supporting certifications such as BLS and other necessary competencies (e.g., ACLS, TNCC, PALS, etc.).
