  • Travel for training, meeting, and conferences or events may be necessary.
  • Travel for home visits, meetings with families, and other client related business are required and use of a personal vehicle may be necessary.
  • Reports to agencies between normal business hours and may require on-call availability after-hours.
  • Agency on-call coverage per the agency schedule will be mandatory.
  • Documents referrals and set initial investigation priory levels
  • Conducts Investigations of reports of child abuse and neglect, administers safety assessments to determine the level of safety and risk for Children/ youth in the home.
  • Determines the initial track for service delivery (Prevention, Short-Term Services, and Court Involved).
  • Develops safety plans with the families and follows up with the family to ensure that the safety plan is being put into action. Provides supports and recommendations to the family to correct the safety issues and mitigate the risk to children/ youth.
  • Delivers short-term services to the family to stabilize the home environment and the family unit.
  • Makes recommendations to remove the children/ youth from their home when abuse and or neglect if founded, or imminent risk of abuse of or neglect is found.
  • Identifies client and family needs in order to assess the need to close a case, transfer to long-term case management services or remove the children/ youth from the home.
  • May identify and assess high risk youth and families that are involved in the juvenile court system.

  • Utilizes agency selected assessments to determine children/ youth risk and safety.
  • Collects information through observation and interviews with children/ youth, parents, relatives, neighbors, and other parties associated with the case, as well as analysis of criminal, past service, history and other records.
  • Engages with families to understand the family’s dynamics.
  • Manages a prevention and investigation caseload and keeps all case file documentation current based on agency policy.
  • Performs CPS investigations and welfare checks.
  • Works closely with Law Enforcement.
  • May assist in the removal of children.
  • May testify in court regarding direct observation of the clients.
  • Perform in-home walk troughs of potential placements, including assessments of health and safety.
  • May be responsible for the emergency placement and/ or placement changes of the children.
  • Prepare prevention safety plan based on conducted assessments with clients, and monitor progress of plan participants.
  • Coordinates the referral of services as it relates to prevention safety planning, including contact with institutions, facilities or other resources.
  • Evaluates prevention safety plan progress based on safety measures.
  • Coordinates and participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings, which may include CPT meetings, in order to support the safety plan and any necessary intervention services.
  • When requested, prepare for and testifies in court and preliminary hearings in order to provide protection to clients.
  • Follow agency’s policies to prevent case closure planning and documenting including discharge plans and coordination with institution facilities.
  • Coordinates and staffs cases with supervisors, team members, service providers, and attorneys as appropriate.
  • Establishes and maintains supportive and professional working relationship with organizations and other agencies involved with child protective investigations such as Community base Providers, Law Enforcement, Medical Personnel, Schools, and others.
  • Maintains confidentiality of agency and client information.
  • Completes all agency required documentation as found in the Northern Arapaho Department of Family Services policy manual.     


  • Must have a Valid Driver’s License, Personal Vehicle, and Insurance.
  • Must pass a full background check
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice (Administrative), or previous experience working in Human Services Delivery.
  • Preference given to applicant who knowledge the following areas:
    • Mental Illnesses, medications, capacity and competency.
    • Available resources in the community.
    • Practices Social Services
    • Tribal, Stat, and Federal Laws pertaining to Child Welfare Investigations.
    • Tribal and County court systems, Juvenile protection law, Federal and State Law.
    • Cultural/Traditional values, Human Development, Tribal family dynamics, Human Behavior, Psychology, Child Psychology, Aging, Child Abuse and Neglect.
    • Intermediate word processing, Spread sheet, Email and Electronic Calendar.
    • Previous Experience with WYCAPS database. 

Minimum Qualification

  • Associates Degree (Human Services)
  • 6 – 12 month experience with acquired knowledge at the level of Investigator or Social Worker.
  • 3-5 years of Education experience with acquired knowledge at the level of Investigator and Social Worker.
